The Trück lab develops new methods for the diagnosis and assessment of primary immunodeficiency.
Many children with PID have a defect of the B-cell system, leading to an increased risk of infection.
Existing diagnostic approaches are limited in their ability to define the severity of disease in symptomatic patients and in predicting the relevance of abnormal test results in asymptomatic patients. The result of this can either be a delay in required preventive and therapeutic measures, or exposure to unnecessary investigations and therapies. Hence, there is a need for additional diagnostic techniques with the ability to rapidly and accurately detect relevant B-cell defects and determine disease severity. We have developed B-cell receptor repertoire sequencing methods for in-depth characterisation of the B-cell system, and using these in conjunction with systems immunology approaches, are developing new PID diagnostics.
